Case Studies
Work with confidence. Below you will find a few unique projects by the corporate office of professional staff that have been accomplished within the last three years which exemplify the quality, creativity, intuitiveness, and the hard-working nature of our staff at Ignited.
During a meeting with an AMLaw100 firm, attorneys questioned how they could handle the closing of financial transactions electronically, rather than using bulky paper-based binders. We assured the firm we could present them with an effective solution so they agreed to give us a ‘test binder’ and requested a demonstration.
In this unique circumstance, a project manager teamed with software specialists to devise the best option with the required specifications. We designed an auto-loading HTML interface that displayed the documents of the binder in PDF format, while retaining their original tab structure, as listed in the table of contents. The files could be viewed per page, per tab or alternatively text-searched with a built-in keyword search bar. We also put the binder CDs in DVD cases with labels for easy shelf storage and retrieval.
Within three business days, we had devised a complete solution that served as a replacement for the firm’s paper-based binders. After further testing and improving the product, we were able to automate the creation of the "digital binders" eliminating any human errors. In fact, we now have a complete solution for the replacement of paper-based binders and provide these services for several law firms nationwide.
We received a call in the late afternoon from a large local law firm requesting a sizeable rush job that needed to be completed as soon as possible. The job entailed 22 boxes of documents needing to be scanned, and OCR performed to create searchable files. The Ignited management staff arranged an overnight scanning team to tackle the project immediately.
First, each box was prepared for scanning by the Prep Specialists. Document fasteners were removed and colored separator sheets were inserted for quick post preparation. As soon as the documents were ready, Scanner Operators imaged the files to the workstations. Once the data was scanned, the images were checked by the QC staff for accurate copies of the originals. Any images deemed too light or dark were re-scanned for a more accurate OCR. The jobs were then split to over 12 different machines for OCR processing. The machines were pooled together to expedite the text extraction, which proved to be exceptionally efficient, especially with our given time-frame. The files were then checked again for text recognition accuracy before being placed on CDs for delivery.
By morning, the data was delivered to the client in time for their attorneys to review the documents. This project was certainly a test of our abilities however after completing the job, the management team realized that with production methods maximized, our capacity levels could have easily doubled the job performed.
An author contacted us in need of a digital copy of a book published some time back, but no existing electronic copy remained. He requested that the book be converted into a Microsoft Word document so it could be edited just as the original. We informed him that we could scan and image the entire book and convert it to a DOC file, while retaining all graphics and formatting.
Upon receiving the book, we scanned and performed OCR immediately. Because the OCR engine employs its own spell check, there was very little deviation from actual text, and interpreted text. After exporting the result to Microsoft Word, the author was able to modify the new copy just as he would have his original, creating a next-edition of his book for publishing. The entire process took less than 1 business day and the job was delivered overnight.
A large defense contractor was faced with the dilemma of moving one of its departments to a smaller location clear across town. Included in the move was an extensive library with documents that had to be retrieved at least once a month. Rather than try to find a home for these documents in the new office where space was limited, they turned to Ignited to convert them to an electronic format. The goal was to image the documents before the nearing move date -- only a month away.
We understood the urgency of the matter and treated the situation as a rush. First, we created immediate staffing and devised a solid plan for how to tackle the project. Ignited picked up over 100,000 documents from the secure facility, converted them to an image format, performed OCR, and created a compatible database load file, all within a matter of 3 weeks -- 2 weeks prior to the deadline.
The remaining two weeks allowed the company some valuable time to focus on other more pressing matters, such as preparing for the move itself.
A contractor was put in charge of rebuilding a large piece of machinery for a local museum. While several rebuilds had been performed in the past, the challenge at hand regarded an antique and the only existing manuals were in a foreign language. The company turned to Ignited and we gladly accepted the project, knowing the strength and flexibility of our OCR engine.
We were sent a series of documents and drawings, ranging from manuals to large format blueprints. Given the age and rarity of the documents, we were unable to cut any sort of bindings and had to glass scan each and every page. This was no problem and within a matter of hours, all 5000 pages were imaged. Once they were imported into our OCR program, it read the pages flawlessly, interpreting each character while comparing against the foreign dictionary type that we had specified.
We uploaded the files to the client via FTP, enabling them to begin work within 24 hours of mailing us the project -- over 3000 miles away. Having an electronic format allowed multiple engineers to access the documents at once while onsite in the field. Having the word searchability permitted them to pinpoint exactly what they were looking for at just a click of a button.
